Save the date: Samsung announces Galaxy Note 7 launch date

You can now mark 2 August on your calendars as the date and day in which the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is officially unveiled to the world. The unveiling event will take place in London at 4pm, an hour earlier than Nigerian time. At the same time, unpacked events will also take place in New York at 11am EST/10am CST in New York as well as Rio De Janeiro at 12pm. In typical Samsung fashion, fans can watch the unveiling through the company’s website, Samsung.com.

Besides announcing the unpacked event, Samsung went further to explain the reason for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 name, which was at odds with their usual naming order and the expectation of fans, most expected the device to be a Note 6.

Here is what Samsung has to say:
First and foremost though, you might be curious as to why it’s called Galaxy Note7 instead of Galaxy Note 6. There are a couple reasons why. First, the Galaxy Note7 will complement our Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, and unify our product portfolio. Second, the Galaxy Note7 will minimize confusion about the latest mobile technology from Samsung, and provide full alignment with Galaxy S smartphone.

Going by the authenticity of recent leaks, it is safe to say that the unpacked event for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will not have much surprise in store for us, as a good number of the devices specs have been confirmed and the ones unknown should be known soon given the way leaks have been pouring in.

So far, we know that the Galaxy Note 7 will be sporting either 5.7/5.8-inch screen Super AMOLED Screen with a Quad HD resolution, an Exynos 8893 or Snapdragon 821 processor, 6GB of RAM. The device is also going to be water and dust resistant. An Iris scanner is expected as well as a 12 megapixel back camera.

The Galaxy Note 7 will most likely run the new Android 7.0 Nougat layered with Samsung’s improved TouchWiz. Of course, we will certainly see the Galaxy Note 7’s trademark stylus pen. Rumour has it that the stylus pen and it’s holder has been significantly reinvented. We are yet to see any leaks as regards this. Perhaps, this is one of the specs, Samsung has kept closely to their chest. Whichever way, come Tuesday 2 August, we will also find out.

This is all we have on the device for now. Rest assured we will give you an update as new leaks come in. Judging by the specs revealed, is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 worth owning? Share your thoughts in the comment box below
