Chinese OEM Xiaomi has finally announced their flagship for 2016, the Mi 5, in an event that was ran simultaneously at the Mobile World Congress and at their home country in China.
Xiaomi’s latest offering lives up to the hype and certainly worth the wait. It comes in two variants the Mi 5 and Mi 5 pro, the latter differs from the former in two features. Here are Mi 5’s specification in wowing order.
Body: A noteworthy feature of this device is its, 3D glass body for the Mi 5 and Ceramic body for the Mi 5 Pro (special edition).
Display: Both devices sport a 5.15 inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display – Full HD display.
Processor: Mi 5 houses a Qualcomm SnapDragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, making it one of the very first devices to sport the latest processor from Qualcomm. The 820 processor is fused with Adreno 530 GPU for graphics.
Sensor: Xiaomi opted to include a physical home button this time around, which doubles as a fingerprint scanner.
Storage: A 3GB/4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 32GB/ 64GB/ 128GB of internal storage depending on the variant. The 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage is for the special edition variant (Mi 5 Pro).
Camera: The device comes with a 16-megapixel OIS rear camera (Sony’s IMX298 sensor, PDAF, 4-axis OIS, DTI) and a 4-megapixel snapper (2um pixel size) is placed up front. The 4-axis OIS serves to minimize any shakiness while the ‘DTI’ camera feature, stands for pixel-to-pixel isolation, which should prevent pixel leakage in pictures.
Battery: A 3000mAh non-removable battery is built into the device, which should power the device for a reasonable length of time. It also comes with Qualcomm quick charge 3.0.
Connectivity: For connectivity, the Mi 5 has a 4G LTE support with VoLTE also included. The device has two SIM card slots and NFC as well. An infrared port is also available on the device, and is placed on the top of this smartphone, along with the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Software: Xiaomi’s latest offering runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Xiaomi’s own MIUI 7.1 OS layered on the Android OS. The device measures 144.55 x 69.2 x 7.25mm, and weighs 129 grams.
Colour: Mi 5 comes in Black, White, Gold and Rose color options.
The devices pricing is currently unavailable, the same goes for the devices availability. We will be bringing you news on this as soon as we get any info. For what it is worth, if I am to hazard a guess, i will say the device will be under $500, given Xiaomi’s knack for bringing consumers devices with high-end specs at a considerably fair price.
