According to our information source, VentureBeat, has published a report that commits to some major changes on the part of the Samsung Galaxy S7. This year’s flagship from Samsung, if the claims prove to be true, will reintroduce a couple of hardware features left behind with the S5.
According to an unnamed person briefed on Samsung’s plans, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge will both come with microSD slots. This reiterates an earlier forecast by the wall street journal that the S7 would again come with a standard and curved AMOLED display, along with space for memory cards.
This could be another positive sign for Samsung fans who bemoaned the loss of expandable storage in the S6. The current flagship had a major , as it replaced plastic with a premium build but lost the microSD card slot and replaceable batteries in the process.
Speaking of batteries, VentureBeat expects them to remain non-replaceable but says they will be bigger. The S7 and S7 Edge will allegedly jump to 3000mAh and 3600mAh, up from 2550 and 2600mAh respectively.
As for the other throwback to the Galaxy S5, look for the S7 to have IP67 dust and water resistance.
On the back of the device, Samsung is dropping off a number of the rear-camera’s megapixels. Instead of the current generation’s 16, be on the lookout for 12. Also look for an f/1.7 lens aperture, down from f/1.9. These changes should remove the hump and allow the back of this year’s device to lay flat. They will also leave the S7 with fewer megapixels than the S4 (though this won’t necessarily have a negative effect on photos).
The Galaxy S7 Edge’s display will allegedly make the leap to 5.5-inch, up from the current 5.1 inches. The S7 will remain at this smaller size. Both will offer 1440 by 2560 resolutions.
On the inside, VentureBeat’s coverage suggests a new Exynos 8 Octa 8890 from Samsung, though the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 may appear in North American variants. All regions may expect 4GB of RAM and at least 32GB and 64GB storage options.
