How to change bootanimation on Android device

You might be wondering what bootanimation is? If you say it’s a picture you see anytime you boot your phone that’s correct. But I want to define mine as an animated pictures or video you see any time you switch ON your Android device which is like an INTRO showing a particular brand logo or trademark. One other thing about boot animation is that it’s common in all device made by its manufacturer. For example; In Tecno devices, you will see a wave animation move from right hand side to the left hand side before the Tecno logo shows. That’s a boot animation. (see picture below)

Sometime seeing this same boot animation everyday can be boring. To make your phone unique and beautiful, you can change the bootanimation to the one of your choice with the tutorial below.

How to change the bootanimation of Android device

– You will need a file manager app with Root access. I recommend this X-plore file manager

To enable superuser access on X-plore

Click on your menu button > configuration > Root Access > Superuser. (see the screenshots below)

Click Configuration

Root Access

Click Superuser

1. Download a custom boot
you want to use by choosing the animation you want to use and downloading the associated file.

2. Open X-plore file manager app and once inside, locate your original boot animation file (bootanimation.zip) in Root/system/media.

3. Long-press the file, choose Rename and name it to bootanimation.bak.

4. Next, browse to the custom boot animation that you want to switch to, copy the zip file to root/system/media.

5. Tick the boxes as shown in the screenshot below, and press OK. After that, rename the file to bootanimation.zip, if the zip file name is different.

Note: You have to make sure that the file name is correct (bootanimation.zip) for the system to recognize your boot animation, and boot properly.

6. Now you should be able to see two zip files, one, bootanimation.zip (new file) and the other is bootanimation.bak (original).

Note: If you ever  to switch back to your original boot animation, delete the current bootanimation.zip and rename the original file back to bootanimation.zip (from bootanimation.bak). Also it’s case sensitive.

7. Reboot the device and you will be able to see your new custom boot animation!
