One of the biggest and dominant phone companies in Nigeria, and by large Africa, Tecno, in their annual Global Spring Launch event held in Lagos, Nigeria, released a new series of smartphones – ranging from a set of low budget and Android Go-based phones, Tecno F1, Tecno F2 and TECNO POP1, to their flagships, Tecno Camon X and Tecno Camon XPro which offers more in terms of megapixels, RAM and storage.

Just like the Tecno Camon CX series, the newly launched Camon X series are specifically built for the “great camera experience”. It even surpassed Tecno Camon CX in this regard, featuring a 24MP front shooter and a 30% increase in performance as said by Tecno.

Display

Tecno Camon X features an 18:9 aspect ratio with 6-inch HD+ display and 1440 x 720 screen resolution. The phone, of course, is not bezel-less like most flagship smartphones but it has a little bezel which means a longer screen.

Tecno Camon XPro also sports a 6-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio but a 2160 x 1080 resolution.

Software

Like all Tecno smartphones, Camon X also contains a MediaTek processor. It runs on a 2.0GHz MediaTek MT6763 Helio P23 chipset with an octa-core processor. It has a 3GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory.

Camon XPro also runs on the same processor as Camon X but has a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

They both are on android 8.1 Oreo with Tecno’s customized UI, the HiOS 3.3 which is the latest operating system from TECNO Mobile, specifically designed for Tecno users. They will both be powered by a 3750mAh battery.

Design and body

Tecno has been making improvements in recent times on their smartphone design and they took it a little further with the Camon X series. Both phones are a fine blend of elegance, performance and affordable, with a beautiful built modern polycarbonate body. For the first time in a Tecno device, the earphone jack has been moved from its usual position to the bottom and also, the volume and power buttons, SIM and memory cards tray have all been moved to the right side. It’s only the fingerprint scanner and the mono speaker that remain in their usual position.

Camera

Tecno Camon X sports a 20MP front selfie camera with dual flash, and a 16MP rear camera with a quad ring flash. While Tecno Camon XPro features a 24MP front selfie shooter with dual flash and a 16MP rear camera with a quad ring flash. Like most recent flagship phones, the Tecno Camon X features the Portrait mode which first appears in iPhones plus the conventional Beauty and Panorama mode.

The X series comes with the most recent dual ISP image processor which has the ability to process images efficiently at a really fast rate.

They both feature a Face ID technology. These are not the first Tecno phones to feature a Face ID technology, it was first introduced in Camon C7 and C9 as “Retina Scanner” but it received a lot of criticism due to poor performance and inability to work in low light. According to Tecno, the Face ID technology in the Camon X series are more advanced, super-fast and can work under any lighting conditions. We hope this proves to be true.

Price

The pricing list for both phones has both smartphones have not been released yet but according to reports, it might cost around N58,000. Even though that might not be the price, we are pretty sure it’s going to affordable as Tecno never disappoint in that area.
