Just in case you missed the unboxing post, here is the link:

In our unboxing video, we talked about the key specs of the Fero iris and what is has to offer. But we didn’t go into details about the specs and in case you would like to find out more about the specification of the device. you won’t miss it on this page.

Having been using the Fero Iris for a couple of weeks now, let’s check out whether the smartphone lives up to its expectations.
FERO IRIS REVIEW
DESIGN AND BUILD
Fero Iris features Fero’s signature fine crafted design and solid build. It feels very light and fits perfectly in the hand as its width and height – 72 mm and 144 mm respectively. The Fero iris has a glittery gold outline around the screen, earphone and charging port at the top, volume and power button at the right-hand side and the mic at the bottom. The back has an 8.0MP camera and a flash by its side while the Speaker far below it. At the first glance, the back cover looks like a gold plated metal frame but you will be disappointed to feel a very light plastic cover. The back cover is removable to reveal the removable battery (which can be replaced), MicroSD slot, and the Dual SIM slots.
DISPLAY
Fero Iris features a 5.0-inch IPS HD Display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixel. It has 2.5D curved edges, which fit perfectly with the thin gold outline. Working with the display feels very pleasant, with a doubt.

THE IRIS SCANNER
It works even in the dark, which is very astounding. The most desirable feature about the iris scanner is the fact that it really can function during low light. The performance, as well as accuracy of the scanner, is mind blowing. It basically will take micro just a few seconds to scan your eyes as well as unlock your device. It does work when you’re wearing sun shades or spectacles as well. You can watch our unboxing video for the live test.
UI & SOFTWARE
Fero Iris comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This is nearly a stock variant of the OS with little to no Bloatware. The lock screen has a simple layout with a shortcut to Google Voice and Camera. By default, the notifications and quick settings appear on it which can not be altered. On the home screen, you’ll see a row of docked apps – the Camera, Dialer, Contacts, and Messaging. The rest of the apps are on the screen you just have to slide left or right to view them. why? Becuase it has no App Drawer. This is Fero’s User Interface (UI) called Fero Fluid. A tap on the menu button displays a shortcut to Settings, Widgets, Wallpapers and Effects. while pressing the menu button for few seconds will bring up the Task Manager, which includes Apps Data and Clear All function. A single swipe down from the top of the display opens the list of notifications, while a second swipe opens a quick setting.

The settings menu is the same old menu with little or no difference. It contains four major groups of settings, Wireless & network is the first group. In this group, you manage your Wifi, Turbo download, Bluetooth, SIM cards, Data Usage, etc. The second group is the Device where we can manage Sound & notification, Storage & USB, Display, Apps, Battery and Memory. The security menu houses the Iris scanner which is found in the third major group of settings – Personal. Other menus for this groups are Locations, Emergency rescue, Accounts, Google, Language & input, and Backup & reset. The fourth and the last group is the system. it includes the Date & time, Schedule power on & off, and Accessibility menus, which offer nothing more than the standard settings. There’s a Cloud printing service pre-installed as well. The System UI Tuner offers options for re-arranging the quick settings toggles, toggles for app icons in the status bar, an embedded battery percentage, and a Demo mode.

PERFORMANCE AND MEMORY
Fero Iris is built with a MediaTek MT6737 chipset. This is an entry-level, 1.25GHz quad-core 64-bit CPU with an ARM Cortex-A53 and a Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. Even though this is a reasonable strategy, you can actually play a couple of the most popular games and also experience power-effective performance. Definitely, you might want to stay away from applications and games with heavy graphics. The Geekbench4 result shows 511 and 1448 for respectively Single-Core and Multi-Core Score.

More Screenshots
The device has a 1GB RAM and 8GB of storage, which can be expanded with up to 32GB. The 8GB internal memory is very poor due to the fact that the system uses up 4.53GB leaving you with slightly over 3GB free. The microSD card slot is separate from the SIM card slots, so you won’t sacrifice your second SIM in case you need more storage. All in all, the smartphone works fine and only very heavy loading can cause hiccups and stuttering.

CAMERA
The camera app is pretty standard. Its home screen contains the camera shutter button and video recording button, shortcuts to panorama, beauty and normal mode, the gesture capture, HDR, flash, front camera switch, as well as a shortcut to the camera settings. Clicking the Camera setting icon, it displays settings like exposure, scene mode, colour effect, anti-flicker, zero shutter delay, video quality, image resolution, etc. You also get basic editing features of photos already taken – applying filters, cropping, rotating, changing the contrast, saturation, etc.

BATTERY
Fero Iris comes with a 2500 mAh Li-Pol battery with a standard 5V/1A charger. The battery monitor includes a Standby intelligent power saving mode, which is switched on by default as well. The software provides Battery optimization and Battery saver options as well. You can also select specific apps, which should be protected from all power saving modes.

FINAL VERDICT
The Fero Iris is a wonderful device with a reasonable price tag. Its display is great, shoots stunning photos during the bright daylight and the opposite at night. Well, it’s not a built for the camera. The performance is manageable and Security is Awesome due to its Iris scanning security feature. The main selling points are the affordable price tag which is N31,750 on Jumia and it IRIS Scanning technology.

Mehn. So many fantastic smartphones coming out monthly. My prayer is that the economy of Nigeria should become good so that all these phones can be easily purchased without much stress financially. Money is always involved.

To be frank, the battery life is nothing to write home about. They to improve that side.
That’s what I have noticed too.. The battery is not good at all
That’s the phone am using but the battery is giving me headache.
Fero……av been hearin of it…so it is as cool as this
They should improve on the batteries of their phones else people will run away from them
It is not good you should upgrade it more
At the first glance, the back cover looks like a gold plated metal frame but you will be disappointed to feel a very light plastic cover.

The phone is pretty cool, it’s a good one
Fero phone is a smartphone
Apparently, everyone and their mom seem to have a smartphone company these days
I was strolling around Computer Village the other day when the side of eye caught a poster with the inscription “Fero Royale”
My first thought was (and I’m not kidding) — “Royale Iron”?
You know, because, Ferrous metals?
Take a walk to 3CHub, SLOT or any phone shop in fact, and I can guarantee you that you’d find a Fero device on the stands.
Before picking up one though, these are quick device specifications of every Fero device you will encounter in Nigeria.

Fero mobile is making a huge statement guys
This phone is just perfect.
An iris scanner and a standard camera. What more do you expect. Its selfie time
But i think the battery capacity is too low. For heavy phone users, 2500mAh no make sense at all
I have a great feeling I am one of the winners of this phone on this platform.
chai so this is the phone they won last week?! why wasn’t I lucky na, well let me won this week
nice phone anyways, the security system is awesome, well equipped for Nigerians

FERO is about to enter the market
I think they will over take some guys
they will over take Samsung
they will also overtake techno right gut now
they might also over take Apple
they might also over take Motorola too
