It is no news that Etisalat Nigeria has been in choppy waters for weeks now. The root cause of the network providers problem being their inability to repay a $1.3 billion loan taken from a coterie of lenders to expand their network infrastructure.
The debt crisis lead to the company being taken over by creditors. After failed dialogues between Etisalat Nigeria and it’s lenders, the Abu-Dhabi-based Emirates Telecommunications Group Company (Etisalat Group) relinquished their stake in company, thereby severing all ties with the Nigerian franchise run by the Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services (EMTS). Following the withdrawal, the troubled Telecommunications provider received orders from Etisalat Global to stop using the companies brand name in their mobile operations.
This past week, Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services (EMTS) held a meeting in a bid to strengthen their ailing company. One of the notable outcome of the meeting is the adoption of a new company name. Etisalat Nigeria’s new name is 9mobile. Although, the company is said to be rolling out the name with little fanfare. Perhaps as an image and customer preservation strategy as such news can relay the wrong message to consumers.
Well, there you have it, Etisalat Nigeria is now 9mobile. The company seems ready to right their wrongs and continue giving Nigerians the best mobile service possible.

The idea behind Etisalat’s change of name
Lagos, Nigeria; July 18, 2016: Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), which previously traded as ‘Etisalat Nigeria’ wishes to inform its over 20 million subscribers, government, regulatory agencies and all relevant stakeholder groups that the telecommunication company has changed its name to 9mobile as a further testament of our unwavering commitment to ensuring business continuity as Nigeria’s fourth largest telecom operator.
Our new trading name, 9mobile represents our 0809ja heritage, our 9ja-centricity, and our evolution over 9 years of operations in Nigeria.
I wish them long life
let’s see if they do well this time
i just pray they succeed this time
Amen,i Pray Too O
The news is oke but try hard so that you will be like MTN pls keep it up
9Mobile welcome back to there customers with 4000
So what are you wanting for
Just go and buy 9mobile SIM and enjoy
Hmmn. I hope they have come back better
I think etisalat will come back stronger.
they really need.to up their data speed aha, currently their speed is very very low, had to spend twenty minutes to load a single page
Well, there you have it, Etisalat Nigeria is now 9mobile. The company seems ready to right their wrongs and continue giving Nigerians the best mobile service possible.
I think you have a point there
Still the say poor network. Sometimes inability to make calls
Good for them but it will take time before people can be able to call them 9mobile
I think you made a good point there, just like airtel from vmobile
I think they can challenge with a new name
Yes. its no more news.
Its now stronger and good now
Etisalat Nigeria I like your information pls do well
Not Only giving joy but from now I have strong faith in Etisalat nigeria
etisalat is not doing well presently
but I believe they will bounce back soon
they will overtake airtel for sure
I also think they may over take mtn too
they will definitely over take glo for sure
I think GLO is the worst we have in Nigeria
they have poor everything in short
they have poor service and poor data
That’s one of their major problem.
I will gladly change my GLO SIM for etisalat currently
If you change to 9mobile, your airtime will develop wings overnight lol.
but I think Mtn is the best though
Which mtn? Mtn has started fucking up.
Mtn needs to start producing phones too
Up till now, am still calling them Etisalat instead of 9mobile
